The TL;DR
- Meta: Threads becomes a default ad placement for every active campaign the week of October 26, and you can no longer fully opt out.
- Meta: Facebook is rolling out "Your Algorithm," a plain-language control for shaping your own feed, and Muse AI now has real business use cases.
- LinkedIn: Daily ad spend can now hit 2x your budget, Reserved Ads dropped its audience minimum, and digital business cards are rolling out.
- TikTok: New court-filing reporting on child safety is a brand safety conversation you should have before Q4 ad spend.
- GBP: Google is testing government ID photo verification, and Posts are moving higher on your local panel.
- AI: ChatGPT Ads expanded to 89 countries and Anthropic previewed Claude Duet, a proactive agent that works in the background.

Meta: Threads ads go default, and Facebook gives you an algorithm dial
Threads becomes a default ad placement
If you run Meta ads, check your placements this weekend. According to an analysis from Common Thread Collective, Threads becomes an automatic placement across all active Meta campaigns worldwide the week of October 26. Back in August, advertisers lost the ability to fully exclude Threads. The only lever left is a placement value rule that can cut Threads bids by up to 90%.
The upside is that Threads CPMs reportedly run 20 to 40 percent below Instagram feed. The catch is that Threads is a conversation and discovery platform, not a shopping one, so direct-response ads may convert worse. And this lands right before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which is exactly when you do not want budget wandering into a placement you never picked.
Meta has also made it easier to run Threads ads at all. Digital 24 reports that advertisers no longer need a matching Instagram profile, and ads are now labeled "Ad" instead of "Sponsored."
Facebook launches "Your Algorithm"
Facebook introduced a plain-language algorithm control that lets people tell the feed what they want to see more or less of. The Verge framed it as AI-based feed customization. Details on how far the rollout has gone are still thin, so treat this as early.
Muse AI and ad tools for business
Meta spelled out business use cases for its Muse AI, following the earlier launch of Muse for Small Business. On the ads side, Meta now lets you set the age groups and genders best suited to each creative asset, and announced Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads, Reels Trending Ads, and a new Aggregated View Time KPI at its Brand Building Summit.
Instagram housekeeping
Linked Reels goes away on October 28. Meta also revealed the first perk of the Edits Plus subscription, 200GB of cloud storage per user. And one to watch: some Facebook Pages are reportedly limited to two organic posts with external links per month, with paid Meta One tiers getting a higher allowance.
Why it matters for your business: Open Ads Manager before Monday and look at where your money is going. If you are running conversion campaigns into BFCM, set a placement value rule on Threads now instead of discovering the damage on December 2. And if you rely on posting links to your website from your Facebook Page, start tracking how many you post per month.

LinkedIn: Your daily budget just got looser, and your profile gets a business card
According to Influent's October recap, LinkedIn's daily spend allowance is rising from 1.5x to 2x your daily budget, with the rollout expected to finish by the end of the month. Your configured budget does not change, so a $100 daily budget can spend up to $200 on a given day. Continuous campaigns stay capped at seven times the budget per Monday to Sunday week, so your weekly total should not blow up, but your daily pacing will look different.
A few other ad changes from the same recap: Reserved Ads dropped its minimum audience from 500,000 to 100,000 members (a $50,000 minimum reservation still applies), the Conversions API now supports hashed names and a 180-day lookback for eligible conversions, and Creator Discovery launched in beta for approved brands.
On the organic side, LinkedIn is rolling out digital business cards, a scannable display of your profile info, plus a "Present" label for current job positions.
Why it matters for your business: If you advertise on LinkedIn, watch your daily spend for the next two weeks so a 2x day does not surprise you. And if you go to networking events, set up the digital business card. It costs nothing and beats a stack of paper cards in a drawer.

TikTok: A brand safety question mark and a pile of new shopping tools
On October 20, TechCrunch reported, based on NPR reporting of employee depositions filed in court, that TikTok staff raised child safety concerns that executives reportedly failed to act on. TikTok called the claims "cherry-picked" and said it has invested billions in Trust and Safety. These are allegations from court filings, not adjudicated findings. TikTok, Meta, Google, and Snap all face hundreds of consolidated federal lawsuits over harm to minors.
On the product side, the Advertising Week announcements include Buy Direct (one-click in-app checkout), GMV Max enhancements, Smart+ Creative Selection, and a TikTok for Business MCP. TikTok also published its holiday season outlook for TikTok Shop.
Why it matters for your business: Nothing here means you pull your ads tomorrow. It does mean you should open your placement and brand safety controls before holiday spend ramps, and decide in writing how you would respond if a client asked you about it. If you sell physical products, the shopping tools are worth a look. If you do not, skip them.

YouTube: AI answers in search, and a hacked-channel safety net
YouTube is testing AI-generated answers at the top of search results. If it sticks, some searches will be answered before anyone clicks a video. YouTube also added a "Temporary feature pause" security option to help recover hacked channels.
Why it matters for your business: If your videos answer customer questions, make sure titles and descriptions state the answer plainly. And turn on two-factor authentication on your channel today. Nobody enjoys the recovery process.

Google Business Profile: Posts move up, and Google may want a photo of your ID
Per Sterling Sky's local search change log, the Google Posts section now appears higher on the local knowledge panel (October 19), and Google is testing a verification method that requires uploading a photo of a government ID (October 20). Search Engine Roundtable also reports business verification sometimes requests government-issued ID. Separately, Google is testing a redesigned local panel that moves key details to the top.
Two smaller items: Google added dietary attributes for restaurants (gluten-free, dairy-free, halal, kosher) on October 13, and review appeal processing has been delayed again, according to the same change log.
Why it matters for your business: Post to your profile weekly, since it now sits closer to the top. Restaurants, fill in those dietary attributes. And if you ever need to verify or reverify, have your ID and business documents ready so you are not scrambling.

AI for Business + Marketers: ChatGPT Ads goes global, and agents start working while you sleep
According to dentro.de/ai's roundup, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 more countries on October 21, for 89 total, and more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since launch about eight months ago. Ads appear only on Free and Go plans. OpenAI also automatically enabled creative enhancements for ChatGPT Ads, and added new measurement partners including Northbeam and Kochava.
Anthropic previewed Claude Duet on October 21, a research-preview proactive agent that gives daily briefings and runs background tasks across 6,000+ connectors, asking for approval before sensitive actions like payments. It is US Pro and Max waitlist only for now.
One security note for anyone experimenting with AI tools: attackers stole stored API keys from about 1.4% of OpenCode Console users on October 17, and some users reported more than $1,000 in unauthorized charges. Rotate your keys and limit their scope.
Why it matters for your business: ChatGPT Ads is no longer a novelty. If your customers ask AI tools for recommendations, test a small budget. And if you use any AI tool with an API key, spend ten minutes this week checking where those keys live.

Kelly's Take
The Threads change is the only item this week that can cost you money by Monday, so start there. Meta took away your ability to say no, which tells you everything about who this platform is built for. Most of the rest is noise you can skim. The LinkedIn spend change and the ChatGPT Ads expansion are the quiet ones I would watch. Fix your placements, post to your Google profile, and stop reading five newsletters to learn what I just told you.
