The TL;DR
- Meta: Meta Account is replacing Accounts Centre, and Threads passed 500 million monthly users while testing a private Friends feed.
- Facebook: Pages without a Meta One subscription are limited to two organic link posts per month.
- YouTube: The mobile app is getting custom feeds and a new nav, while Q3 ad revenue growth was the slowest of the year.
- Google Business Profile: Google is testing Google Business Home, auto-adding Messenger links, and asking some businesses for an EIN.
- AI: ChatGPT now reads iCloud Mail and Calendar, and a new GPT-6.1 Terra model is rolling out to paid plans.
By The Numbers
- 500M+ Threads monthly active users, with time spent per user up more than 20% year over year. (Social Media Today)

One Meta Account, a 500 million user Threads, and a paywall on your Page links
Meta Account replaces Accounts Centre
Meta is swapping Accounts Centre for a new system called Meta Account, which manages Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Threads, Meta AI, AI glasses, and Quest headsets in one place. According to ABC News, it is rolling out gradually, you cannot opt out, and WhatsApp only joins if you add it or had already linked it. You can still choose which profiles sit under each Meta Account, and app settings stay separate.
Security experts quoted in the same piece point out the obvious tradeoff. One login means one breach opens more doors.
Threads passes 500 million and tests a Friends feed
Per Meta's Q3 numbers, Threads now has more than 500 million monthly users, and Zuckerberg says it has overtaken X. Meta also reported record Instagram time spent, with almost 45% of recommended Reels less than a day old. That last one matters: fresh content is getting a bigger shot.
Today, Meta started testing Threads Friends in Ireland, Italy, and Japan. You can share posts with a private list of up to 50 followers, and they stay off the public feed. No timeline for wider rollout.
Facebook Pages get a link limit
Here is the one that will sting. Facebook Pages without a Meta One subscription are limited to two organic posts with links per month. Links in paid ads, links to Meta's own apps, and affiliate links do not count. Meta One launched September 15 and replaces Meta Verified, with business plans from $14.99 to $499 a month. Meta's help text says the limit may not apply to every Page yet.
Why it matters for your business: If your Facebook strategy is "post a blog link and hope," that strategy has an expiration date. Put the story in the post itself, use the link sparingly (two a month, pick your best), and promote the rest with ads. Claim your Threads handle now if you have not, because 500 million people is no longer a test audience. And turn on passkeys before Meta Account reaches you.

A new app layout, custom feeds, and a growth slowdown
YouTube is redesigning its mobile app. According to Droid Life, the top bar gets shortcuts for Home, Subs, Live, Music, and Movies & TV, plus a "+" button to build custom feeds around any topic. Subs moves up top, so the bottom bar shrinks to Home, Shorts, Create, and You. Custom feeds were rolling out in the US on mobile and desktop.
On the money side, YouTube ad revenue hit $11.21 billion in Q3, up 9.2%, the slowest growth of 2026. Alphabet did not say why. Meanwhile, YouTube hit a record 15.8% of US TV time and passed 150 million Music and Premium subscribers.
Why it matters for your business: People are building their own feeds around topics, which rewards channels with a clear, narrow subject. If your channel is a random grab bag, pick a lane. Viewers are growing, ad dollars are growing slower, so organic YouTube is still a bargain.

Google is rearranging your profile again, and emailing you about it
Per Sterling Sky's local change log, it was a busy week. On October 28, Google began emailing businesses that it is automatically adding Facebook Messenger links to their profiles, and it is asking some businesses for their EIN and a privacy policy link. On October 23, it was testing a revamped performance report with engagement, review, and search metrics. On October 22, it launched Google Business Home, a beta home base for Business Profiles.
Earlier this month, Google moved the Posts section higher on the local panel and began testing verification by uploading a government ID. Review appeals were delayed again. Separately, anyone can suggest an edit to your profile, and you have four days to accept or reject it before Google may publish it.
Why it matters for your business: Check your email, including spam, for anything from Google about your profile. Then log in and make sure your hours, phone, and services match your website, because Google checks it. Posts are now higher on the panel, so use them. And if your profile mysteriously says something you did not write, that four-day window is why.

ChatGPT gets your inbox, and AI security gets scarier
OpenAI keeps shipping. According to Releasebot's ChatGPT changelog, ChatGPT now connects to iCloud Mail and Calendar on all plans (October 27), GPT-6.1 Terra is rolling out in Work and Codex for visual reasoning, computer use, and writing on paid plans (October 26), and Locked Chats let you hide conversations behind a PIN (October 20). ChatGPT Slides, for building and presenting decks with real-time collaboration, launched October 16 for eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise users.
The less fun news: an infostealer called Aokigahara reportedly targets sessions and config files for AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT Desktop, and Cursor. If you are logged in on a compromised device, so is the malware. The same roundup notes Meta requires disclosure on AI-generated election ads ahead of the November 3 election.
Why it matters for your business: Connecting email to an AI assistant is useful and also a bigger door to lock. Turn on two-factor everywhere, log out of AI tools on shared devices, and do not connect the inbox that holds client contracts until you have decided you are comfortable with it. If you run political-adjacent ads this week, read the disclosure rules first.

Kelly's Take
Meta is turning Facebook Pages into a pay-to-play link farm, and most of you will not notice until your traffic dips. Fix that this week: put the value in the post, save your two links, and stop treating Facebook as a billboard for your blog.
Threads at 500 million is the real story. Claim it, post three times a week, and see what happens. Then go check your Google Business Profile, because Google is changing it whether you are watching or not. Pick one. Do it. Stop reading newsletters (except this one).
