How Stellar started

A side hustle, a layoff, and a leap.

  1. Before Stellar

    I sold new homes at Pulte Homes, where I was the top J.D. Power salesperson in my division my first year. Then I moved into online marketing and blogging for a restaurant supply company, and I was hooked.

  2. 2008: the side hustle

    I started Stellar Media Marketing on nights and weekends, helping small businesses figure out this new thing called social media.

  3. December 2010: the leap

    I got laid off. Instead of job hunting, I went all in on Stellar.

  4. 2011: making it official

    Stellar Media Marketing became an official LLC, and the side hustle became the business.

  5. Early to everything

    Periscope, Facebook Live, chatbots, AI. I've jumped into every major platform early, built an award-winning chatbot practice, created Baby Got Bot, trained as a ManyChat-certified trainer, and spoken on stages around the world.

  6. Today

    I work with a small roster of established businesses as their fractional social media director, from Colorado to North Texas, and write The Observatory every week.

What I believe

Four things I'll tell you on our first call.

Consistency beats heroics.

Most small businesses don't have a marketing problem. They have a consistency problem. The businesses that win are the ones still posting in month nine.

Strategy comes before content.

Every client starts with an audit and a plan before a single post goes live. Posting without a strategy is just noise with a logo on it.

You should know who's running your account.

The person you talk to on our discovery call is the person writing your captions. Nobody gets handed off to a junior.

Leads matter more than likes.

I report on the numbers your accountant would care about: calls, form fills, website visits, and leads. Followers are nice. Customers are better.

Off the clock

The rest of my story.

Back home in Colorado

I was born in Colorado. Then life took us on an adventure: seven years in California while my husband Jeff built spaceships for Richard Branson, and four years in Texas. Now we're back home in Aurora with our two daughters.

Coach Kelly

I coach 12U softball in Cherry Creek Little League and serve on the league board. My goal as a coach is to help girls fall in love with the game.

Jeff and I co-host a weekly podcast for rec softball coaches and families. I built the site and run the marketing. Give it a listen.
